Our Family Digging for Crystals

Our family favorite is crystal digging!

Crystal Digging at Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge

Our Family Recommendations for Crystal Digging

Bring Plenty of Water

Bring large jugs of water to:

rinse crystals

use with sifters

clean hands and feet

cool off if needed

The salt flats can become very dry and hot.

Helpful Supplies to Bring

sifters

small shovels

buckets

towels

drinks

snacks

sunscreen

hats

A beach tent or shade canopy can make a huge difference during summer months.

Towels Are a Must

Bring towels to:

dry feet

clean salt off before getting back into the car

wipe down hands and tools

The salt gets everywhere.

Bring a Small Vacuum

A small handheld vacuum can really help clean the salt from:

car floors

seats

shoes

bags

Trust us, the salt follows you home.

Allergy Medicine

Even if allergies are not normally a problem, it is still smart to pack allergy medication because:

wind conditions change quickly

pollen and dust can be strong

the dry environment may bother some children

Restrooms

Make sure everyone uses the restroom before heading out to the digging area.

Depending on conditions and where you dig, restroom access may not be nearby.

Helpful Tip

Early mornings are often:

cooler

less crowded

easier for younger children

more comfortable during Oklahoma summers

Families navigating disabilities often carry an invisible level of planning, advocacy, flexibility, and emotional energy that many people never fully see.

I believe families deserve to feel heard, respected, and supported without pressure or judgment.

Whether helping families navigate resources, community connections, or the home buying and selling process, my goal is always to approach people with patience, compassion, and a calm understanding that every family’s journey looks different.

Sometimes the smallest accommodations, understanding conversations, and supportive environments can make the biggest difference.

sensory needs

medical concerns

mobility challenges

communication differences

seizures

therapy schedules

emotional regulation

accessibility planning

everyday life can require extra thought and preparation.

That is one reason this resource guide is so important to me.

As both a parent and a REALTOR®, I understand that families are not just searching for a house, they are searching for:

safety

support

accessibility

understanding

calm environments

welcoming communities

schools and activities that fit their family’s needs.
